Jacobskerk Winterswijk wall painting of angel with violin

His Unvarnished Image is inspired by the frescos of the Jacobskerk in Winterswijk. As a young boy I sang and played violin in the children's chorus, the kindercantorij, of this church. I always noticed the wall paintings were covered in white paint. During the protestant iconoclasm (beeldenstorm) of the 1500s, these frescos were overpainted, or whitewashed, with white paint. In the protestant view, imagery of especially Christ reduce his deity to the level of humanity.

The piece is to be performed with a baroque-like bowing expression.
